Might be the ABS module. If there is a clicking sound when you hit the brakes that sounds like it's coming from where the Track button on the dash is, that might be it.

Here is a link to another place on the forum that may be of help: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-repair-27963/

There is a great article on Gus' website that will tell you how to repair it yourself vice dishing out the $2800 to get a new one. Just click the "ABS module repair" on his site here: Auto Repair

Default Engine Failure during driving

Thanks for your reply. Just remembered that when the car stalled, in addition to TRAC light the engine FAIL/Safe mode comes on. Does this help your diagnoses.

Might be helpful to know what year your XJR is.

Cheers

I'm going to go out on a limb here and take a guess.
It sounds like the car stalls in traffic and doesnt want to keep idle- Stephanie- is that right?
I had this. If this is the case- the trac unavailiable and other warning lights are a red herring.
On my car- the idle speed became too low for the car to maintain so it would stall. When running around 500 rpm or below at idle the alternator cant provide the engine and its systems with enough power so the ECU diverts power away from traction control , ABS etc. Then the engine stalls anyway. I fixed my problem by cleaning out the MAF sensor and throttle.
This fixed it, but I later also changed all the spark plugs. This fault has never come back again.
