Default Time to say hi...

Hi, my name's Bob and I joined the forums several weeks ago. I figure it's time to say hi to all. I've already culled some good info here and am sure it's a great place for a Jag owner, enthusiast, lover....whatever!

So, I've wanted a Jaguar since I was a wee lad and now that I'm decades beyond that, I finally purchased a '97 VDP. Windsor Blue with 72k on it. I bought it out of state and absolutly loved driving it all the way home! At one point I had to get a feel for what it could do (was already convinced this is a powerful machine) and on a steep incline e a s i l y slid right up to 100 mph. I mean no effort on the beast! There was plenty of room to go...I had to back off to keep it at 100...not knowing my new car I didn't want to spoil it foolishly. But I was impressed! Still am of course!

I've worked on cars since high school...all the way down to the internals; so am not worried about taking care of my baby. I do need to get used to some new engineering but have enjoyed getting into it a bit already. Here's what I learned on my drive home and since:

- Telescoping steering needs a look into; motor energizes, but does not engage.
- Driver's seat does not raise/lower.
- Heater doesn't heat...took care of that today and will post in the X300 section shortly.
- Front wheel shimmy...took care of that several weeks ago.
- Radio or speakers need attention. I'm leaning toward the radio at this point.
- Started running rough...new plugs & a quick, in place cleaning of the throttle body worked wonders. Will need to do a proper TB cleaning by removing it still. Also had some oil in the SP wells. Will take care of that and check valve clearances at the same time.
- Lower Ball Joints need replacing.
- Right rear shock or spherical joint needs replacing.
- Trunk and hood clear coat is all cracked.

That seems like quite a laundry list, but you know, it is a great and fun car to drive! And as I get through my list, it will only get better!

Thanks Translator & cadillac. Lots of knowledge here!

I do look forward to getting my Jag smoother and smoother though it's not so bad as is with that laundry list!
