Default Timing chain tensioners 4.0

I own 1998 xk8 4.0 purchased with 36006 miles it now has 42000 miles
with no issues.
How concerned should I be at this point in time about the timing chain tensioners and when should they be replaced ?

Thanks

Welcome Rob2014
I did mine at 50,000 miles and the passenger side secondary tensioner crumbled in my hand when I removed it. I'd be pretty concerned

Welcome to the forum rob2014,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I would be making tensioner check/change a high priority.

Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US North East Region forum by following this link USA North East - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Just do them...at least the secondary tensioners...those are the ones that severely damage the engine. On a car that age the plastic tensioners can go at any time.
