V12 XJS in Japan
Greetings from Japan....
I've been reading this forum for a while now, and found a lot of good information, and finally got around to getting my dream car, a Jaguar XJS. This is a car I've lusted after for thirty years, since before I could even drive.
The paint's almost impeccable, the chrome's flawless as far as I can tell, there's no rust anywhere I could spot (using the info from here to know where to look), and just a few issues that the vendor (a specialist in older Jags) thinks are more a case of getting all the fluids replaced as the car has been sitting for about a year. Actual delivery should be in a month, once the mandatory vehicle inspection is done, issues have been sorted and the car is running perfectly, but I thought since I've made the decision to buy it, I might as well join up now and introduce myself, as I'm sure I'll be screaming for help at some stage in the hopefully distant future.
Around this part of semi-rural Japan, these things are as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth. You can go for literally years without seeing one (believe me, I'd have noticed; even the XJ saloons are rare), so I definitely need to obey the law, as you can bet a big blue Jag driven by a big white guy will be easy to track down.... Being so rare, I'm expecting to need to do a lot of inspections and simple work by myself, and so will need to rely on the generosity of the experts in this forum. More serious stuff will, for the moment, need a specialist.
I could have gone for the simpler, more sensible (or less insane, if that's a better phrase) four-litre I6, but come on - buying an XJS is not a "sensible" thing to do in the first place, so I'm going the whole hog. They're getting thinner on the ground over here, and prices are rising fast for what remains. I intend to use it as much as I can, and look forward to some nice long grand touring in a nice long grand tourer.
In return for all my potential questions about keeping the car running, I'd be glad to try to answer any questions about driving/road trips in Japan other curious members might have (short answer: surprisingly practical).
Incidentally, my user name here comes from an old Jaguar ad I remember seeing in one of my father's Punch magazines, with a schoolboy standing wistfully outside a showroom gazing at a Jaguar, and the caption was simply "Some Day, Some Day."

It sounds like you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
You can also visit the Other Areas Region forum by following this link Other Areas - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forumto find other members in your part of the World.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
