vanden plas secrets
my name is joe t,iv just pick up an 1986 vanden plas, and im trying to learn my way around the car, wasent sure what to exspect, first time jag owner, and iv instantly fallen for her, recondtioned tthe fuel system,re did the rear brakes, calipers rotors and all, having fun.lol, but she has some secrets and dosent want to tell,im working on the air condtioning now and need to cycle the commpresser to charge it,anyone give me good sound suggestions
Welcome to the group and congratulations on owning one of the great Jaguars. Those Series IIIs were really nice cars. Built like a tank and drive like velvet.
To engage the compressor just apply 12v to the green wire at the compressor.
If you're low on freon the "thermal limiter fuse" has almost surely blown. It looks like this:
12 THERMAL LIMITER FUSE GM A/C COMPRESSOR 6551258 - Milford
It should be on a little sheet metal bracket sorta above the compressor.
If you recharge the system and replace the thermal limiter fuse but the compressor still doesn not engage, post back in the regular XJ6-XJ12 section.
Cheers

hey doug thanks for the suggustions,it worked out great, the fuse was blown, got her to cycle and wala, beautyful cold air.working on this car is a huge change of pace from my 99 olds mini van,but the i learn about this jag,the more grateful i am for finding her.the sad thing is i may be forced in to selling it due to raising a family,if you can give me a general idea of how much this car may be worth,id greatly appreciate it,its absolutlly rust free, with a near perfect interer, and has 70000 miles, top 95 percent clean and 100 percent unmolested
