Default Welcome from South Africa

Hi guys. After owning a BMW and a Mercedes I have decided to move over to the Jaguar range and I hope for my sanity's sake that I'm doing the right thing. Both Germany cars have had given me ignition problems (the Mercedes needs $2200 for the problem to be fixed) so I'm in the market for a used car. At the moment I've a 2002 Jaguar X - Type 2L V6 in mind (though one eye is still looking at the 2005 VW Passat). I hope you guys will help me to make the right choice and help me out with tips when I buy the car.

Good to have you with us.
Happy hunting, why not point another eye to check S Types? Whatever takes your fancy research in the relevant tech section is vital https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/#jaguar-models

Welcome to the forum tindo,

I saw you'd been asking about Japanese imports in the X-Type section so no need for a link to it from me.

To get an idea of the regular issues with this model, check the 'HOW TO' thread at the top of the X-Type tech section by following this link:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...essories-5915/

You may also like to visit the 'Other Areas' Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/other-areas-43/ to find other members in your part of the World.

Good luck in the search for your Jaguar and enjoy the forum.

Graham

Hi. I just checked out the S Type and it's quite a looker and the price isn't much different from the X-Type. Excuse my noob question but in general terms put head to head which one is more reliable the X-Type or S Type because for me reliability is a priority at the moment.

With any used Jaguar, reliability very much depends on how well it has been maintained by previous owner(s). Check the service history on any vehicle you are considering. The best Jaguars come with a fully stamped service book and a file full of receipts from the previous owner.

If you are hoping to just drive a Jaguar and put it in for a service once a year with no attention in between, it may not be the vehicle for you.
