Default Wipers activated with Light Switch

Any ideas why my wipers would come on very very slowly when the headlights are turned on? 1995 XJ6

Hi Dave,

Give the car/type/MY. Almost certainly a bad switch or short circuit in the steering column. Certain MYs are prone to steering column failures, but too large a guessing game w/o specifics.

Also, the mods will be asking you to move over to a specific forum where we can help you diagnose once we know the specific car with which we're dealing.

Best,

Welcome to the Forum Daveoby. As Stevetech quite correctly mentions please post a technical question into the appropriate model section. (hmm, are we really that predictable?)

This New Member' area is really only for introductions.

Why not have a read of the Forum Guidelines, they will get you going in no time.

So go on tell us a bit more about yourself and your car it helps us all to get to know each other better.

As for your problem, try the X300 or XJ40 section, the guys, including Stevetech will soon pick up on it.

Hey everyone. My Dad is Dave, I am his son Dan. You'll probably see me on here more than my Dad since I am the gear head My Dad bought a '95 XJ6 Vanden Plas w/ 66k miles for my mother for her birthday. It is a very nice car, but it does have some problems that we're working on.

The problem Dad described earlier I fixed today. I found that the front left ground stud was missing its nut. This caused a few of the weird electrical problems we were experiencing including 5V leakage to the wiper motor with the high beams, 2V to the wiper motor with low beams, thermostatic switch inop, and coolant temp gauge inop. I love fixing multiple problems with one little fix!

Hi Dan,

Glad you found it. The grounds are essential on this car. I find myself checking ground lugs whenever I am doing other work and one is exposed.

Go over to the X300 site and you'll find lots of "community" with some heavy expertise, plus lots of resources.

Awesome. Yeah, I read a couple TSB (who knows how old) about the grounds on these things. I reviewed the wiring diagram this morning to confirm everything I fixed. It all makes sense now - Ahhh HA!

I will check out the X300 site. Also, where am I supposed to post things about my app (95 XJ6)?? There are sections for other XJ6 years and sections for every other Jag model, but where's the 95-97 XJ6 section?

Thanks stevetech
