Smile X type curious

Morning all. Just registered as I am looking to buy my first X type (or jaguar of any type) and thought it might be useful to tap into lots of experience.
I will welcome advice on what to look out for (Good and Bad).
On a budget of just £2,500, I am looking for a 2.0D which seems to put me amongst cars that are 2003/2004 and have 120,000 - 150,000 miles on the clock.
I would like to know the key differences between the Sport and the SE and what possible differences there are between the different years. I have noticed that a 2004 Sport had dials for the ventilation controls but a 2003 SE model had a digital display. Is this because of the age (03/04) or model (Sport/SE) and which is best?
This is the type of info that would be really useful plus other stuff you can throw at me
