Question X300 Power steering fluid level

I'm already in love with my first X300 (only had it a few weeks) but still finding my way around it. The inbuilt dipstick on the PAS fluid reservoir cap is different to that shown in the handbook. Instead of a flat stick with clear cold/hot markings as the book says, mine is just a round hollow tube with 2 marks/score lines on it roughly 3/8in apart. Does anyone know if these relate to anything?? I thought maybe the lower mark is max level cold and the upper one max when hot. Does anyone have a dipstick like this? Appreciate any experience out there...

I think mine is the same....don't quite recall to be honest. I'll check tomorrow. I'd use the upper mark for "hot" readings and lower for "cold", as you mention. I'll wager the difference is about one fluid ounce :-)

Cheers
DD

That's exactly the dipstick in the power steering reservoir on my 1997 xj6.

I am not 100% certain you are correct about the markings, but that is how I thought they would align as well. it's pretty straight forward to have 2 lines for measuring the fluid.

Thanks Doug and Malikail, I appreciate your replies. Sounds like we're on the right track. I should have mentioned mine is 1997 3.2L Sport. I will get used to giving out proper details in future! I'm in Melbourne, Australia but I dont believe this model is any way unique to the Aussie market. Being new to it I think this forum is great, I look forward to participating more in the future.
Cheers guys,
Tony.
