Default xj8 info

first off, I wish to say thank you for all the post to help keep our car up and running. The site has been very helpful. Going to go directly to the point. I have an XJ 8 that was suffering the flooding won't start rough idle etc. and found something interesting. directly at the end of the air intake above the right front wheel on my car I found a cracked wheel cover leading directly to the air inlet

The crack in the plastic could be a 1 time thing to just my car but I dont think we ever hit anything an after changing the plugs ect "tune up" a number of odd things about the air filter and throttle body got me thinking. the filter was for the most part clean and we drive in a dirt yard every day. the throttle body looks as it was backfiring alot but never did.
after removing the filter body and the rubber grommet i though it was a bees nest in the bottom of the cavity. it was a mud glob from water and dirt falling out of the air filter tube.
If the crack in the plastic is a defect and opens up in a few years as the stress from heat and cold makes it bigger, the linners plug and 02s are likely working overtime.

2000 XJ8
67000 miles
rain and snow year_ one day it would not start after a short drive. check within this site for help.
Start up and quits - will not start> foot to floor as it starts release slowly.
worked.
2nd day driving
dash > Resticted Performance is on and off randomly with eng yellow light.
code>too rich bank 1 and 2 no other info.

Some compression loss and guessing some linner damage but after the tune up and patching up the hole in the wheel well she is running ok.

I would speculate if this is a defect in the plastic wheel cover and more cars are developing the same sysptoms it would be a good thing to check under the rubber grommet.
I hope its just my car.

The forum has bin a big help for the newer jags. without the forum I would still be poking at things I dont fully understand. new cars dont have points I can ajust or a distributor to tinker with to get them running.
I love to play with the older jags but the new "anything over 1974" are overwhelming.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
