The Aston Martin Cygnet

The Aston Martin Cygnet
Has anyone else seen this? Aston's decided they need their own Toyota IQ. It's probably the farthest thing from an Aston that you could imagine. This is a good article on the subject on Car and Driver:
http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car...ygnet-car_news
It's going to cost lets say $40 thousand, and be only available to current Aston Martin owners, giving them a little, more economical car for running around in. So, if you're an Aston Martin owner, and you want a car that's economical, naturally, you're going to spend 40 grand on another Aston. Instead of using the money to pay your DB9's gas bill. Yeah, it's supposed to help with the EU's emissions standards, but really?

I think it's a great idea. A lot of people seem to think the Cygnet will embarass the brand. I know that if I see a Cygnet driving around, I know that person has "proper" Aston in their garage and they either want to save money, the environment or more likely their pride and joy car. I'd rather drive a Toyta around if joe jerk is going to ding my door or if parking spaces are super tight. I'm sure it's cheaper/easier in the long run to fix a Toyota door panel than an Aston's.
Besides, it can be an "exclusive" car for their kids without giving the keys to the real car.
"Yeah I drive an Aston Martin"
Dude, that's just a Toyota.
"This is but the one at home definitely isn't!"

I have a feeling that it will hurt the Aston brand a bit (probably not as much if they cannot comply to CAFE standards). It's something that will belittle the brand. The only thing it has going for it is the fact that you can only get one if you already own an Aston. It will be a bit difficult to imagine someone who already owns a fantastic 'real' Aston going out and spending the money on the baby carriage that is the Cygnet.

I'm not so sure it will hurt the Aston brand. Chances are its not something they will advertise and only the real enthusiasts will know about and understand.
The psuedos who only know Aston as the Louis Vitton of the automotive world will think it's stupid.
The ignorant will think its poserish.
And the stupid will be totally convinced it's a real Aston (just like a Fiero with a Ferrari sticker is the real deal).

It subtracts from the exclusivity. Astons are in the supercar league, not just anyone can have one- they're out of reach. Anybody can have a Jag, but Aston need to stay miles away from the riff-raff who will soil their name buying a Cygnet 10 years from now and then clutter up the image of only beautiful fast cars ever.

And I thought the new XJ was a monstrosity... Ye gods, a 'Jag' that looks like an angry rhinoceros, and an Aston that resembles a toad.
What is the world coming to!

The Cygnet is available on the used market in the UK.
I was driving by the famous HWM Motors at Walton on Thames near Heathrow Airport and they had three lined up with the vast number of proper Astons.
Prices - £23K - 4.5K miles and the other two are £30K and a new one at £36K
At least 10 others are for sale in the UK most are about £20K and two are at £30K ( close to the new price )

I don't like it....it will kill the Aston Martin brand imo.
This one was fluorescent orange/pink.
( UK folks would recognise it as the Dyno Rod colour) UGH!
Found a pic
High Viz anyone ?
