Looking at a Landy!
As if having a Jag isn't quirky enough, I am currently looking at picking up a 1996 Range Rover. 4.0 It's got about 130K miles on it and hasn't had the EAS switched out? Body is solid & interior looks about right for the mileage. Current owner picked it up about 5 years ago in Arizona and brought it back here. I know a couple of you have/had them and I was just wondering how one can test and tell if the EAS has life left in it. Priced at $4000 and with a $1500 initial repair budget I wouldn't be too afraid of it if the "usual" repairs have come and gone by this time of it's life. What might be the "usual" things that should have gone wrong by now? I would only be looking to put about 5K miles on it over any given winter.
I suppose i could go lurk around the Landy forum...unless one of you with Rover experience wants to tell me to run.

mohrd,
There is a kit available to convert the EAS back to conventional coil spring suspension.
When I was car shopping, I was looking for a Land Rover Discovery, but the reviews on it weren't real good. You're right in that it is somewhat quirky but the off-road capability is first rate.
