How does one get an XKSS? Two ways: a large sum of money or a ridiculous sum of money. There are only 16 original XKSS's in existence. Long story short, there was a fire a the factory in Conventry. The only thing that survived were 16 D-Type chassis. Jaguar felt it was necessary to immortalize these 16 chassis is something 'special'. Thus, the XKSS was born. There were 14 in attendance at Pebble this year. This was my first time to actually see one in person.
On other hand, there was a company in the UK that was producing reasonably accurate kits. I'm not sure if they're still in business, but there might be a few reproductions floating around.

I agree. Its almost a shame to see cars like this that dont get driven. After all they are CARS haha

In the UK and Italy, they are, you only have to attend the likes of the Mille Miglia retrospective or Goodwood revival meetings to see these cars driven like they're stolen, and crashed, unfortunately! The good thing, the value of the title makes rebuilding them a breeze. All the skills required are there. The likes of Jim Stokes, Crosthwaite & Gardiner and numerous other restoration specialists are busy keeping them racing. A hidden gem is the Gold Cup at Oulton Park in Cheshire England, Jackie Stuart's favourite race track, he likened it to a mini Nurburgring. He blew his championship winning Tyrell's engine up there a couple of years ago!

The fit and finish on the 16 is actually original. There was one on display that experienced a slight engine fire [leaky carb that lit off]. The paint has *not* been repaired and remains bubbled on the hood. Don't forget... lead-based paint.
