Default 2002 Jaguar Vanden Plas

2002 Jaguar Vanden Plas (VDP)
- 79,000 miles
- Exterior: Quartz Metallic
- Interior: Oatmeal
- Rust-free, super clean
- Clear Ohio title in hand
- Clear CarFax available

The car was sold new in Florida where the 1st and 2nd owners amassed a total of 43,600 miles. The 3rd owner purchased it in late 2007 and brought it to Ohio where it was only driven in the spring/summer, adding only 27,500 miles in nine years. I purchased the car in early 2016 with 71,100 miles and it currently has 79,000 miles (I daily drive the car, so mileage will increase ~300 miles/week). I have driven the car only during the spring/summer, to/from work and on the occasional road trip. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car cross-country tomorrow (averages 18mpg city and 23mpg highway).

During my ownership, I've replaced:
- Fuel pump (2016)
- Wheels - Replaced the factory VDP wheels with "Penta" wheels (2016) - original VDP wheels/tires available
- Tires - New tires installed with the XJR "Penta" wheels (2016)
- Front upper shock bushings (2018)
- Gas cap (2018)

So what does it need? Nothing really, but for full disclosure the driver's seat heater does not work (never tried to fix it since I don't drive it in the fall/winter) and like all Jags the headliner needs re-gluing/replacing (I have it "professionally" pinned up). The A/C is stone cold, but it does require one small can of refrigerant per year to keep it that way. I replaced the gas cap because I receive the occasional P0455 code.

The car presents equally as well as in the pictures, but it is 16 years old so it does have a few very minor dings. I consistently receive compliments and thumbs-up in this car.

$5000 obo - CASH only - PM me here or call me - seven 4 zero - two six 3 - four 0 nine 0 (8am - 10pm only please). If no answer, please leave your name/number and I'll call you back asap.

Lots of links to pics below, including the CarFax.

Thanks,
Dan

Is this a long wheelbase car. I have a 99 XJ8L for my wife and I want to replace it after 14 years, but I prefer a standard wheelbase body. She only likes the X308 body style.

Hi Ron,

Yes, the VDP is the long wheelbase model like the XJ8L only with more "plushness", options/amenities/etc. I prefer the LWB because of the additional leg room in the back seat. Just buy this for your wife and have her chauffeur you around - LOL.

Thanks,
Dan

Hello,
Do you still have the Asteroids wheels?

Sorry, that was a brain lapse on my part. I meant "Penta" not "Asteroid" (fixed in original ad).

if you were a bit closer I drive over and check it out.
I bought this for her in 2004 with 65,000 miles, it now has 112,000 and I want to replace it for her with the last X308 model year. I can see your pin up job in one of the pictures, I had to have her headliner fixed when I bought it from the Jag dealer.

I'd love to see this car go to another Jaguar enthusiast! (nice XJS by the way!)

Book a one-way flight on Delta from ATL to CMH for ~$100 and I'll pick you up at the Columbus airport in the Jag. Look it over and drive it. If you're satisfied, we'll drive back to my home, do the paperwork and you can drive it back to GA. If you're not interested, I'll give you $100 cash for your return flight home!

PM me here or call me at the number in the ad if you're interested. I'm happy to provide additional pics and/or answer any questions you might have.

I flew down to Baton Rouge about 6 years ago to look at the XJS and liked it, so I bought it and drove it home that day. Sounds like a good offer to me. Do you have an estimate to repair or replace the headliner? Does the radio have the navigation feature? What else needs to be replaced, if anything? I will give you a call later tonight after I talk to my wife.

I do not have an estimate on the headliner replacement, but my best guess is $200-$350 (it will vary by location/material). The car does not have navigation, just the 6-disc CD changer.

The car needs absolutely nothing. It's due for an oil change, but I'll take care of that. As mentioned in the ad, I replaced the gas cap because I was receiving the occasional P0455 code (check gas cap message). The code is just an annoyance since it brings on the check engine light, but it's easily reset with an OBDII scanner. Hopefully the new cap took care of the issue, if not it may need a canister purge valve (~$100 from AutoZone/Advance).

What is a good time to call you on Wednesday. Talked with my wife and she suggests I go and look at it and call around about the headliner costs. I like the wheels better than the stock wheels, are there 5 of them? Does this 4.0 have the later chain tensioners. I just replaced all the water hoses on mine last month along with two motor mounts and the purge valve for the fuel tank. First big expense in 14 years with her car.

I'm available for calls 5pm-9pm Eastern (weekdays).

I only have four of the Penta wheels. The spare is the unused, factory Starburst. Refurbished Pentas are available on eBay for ~$200 (if you wanted the spare to match).

The previous owner told me he had the chain tensioners upgraded to the later units as a part of a preventative maintenance service (performed by a Jaguar dealership), but to be honest I've never pulled a cam cover to verify. I'm happy to verify, but to keep the car leak-free I'll need to source new cam cover gaskets and won't have time to do the job until the weekend of 7/21-7/22.
