Tools for Rent
I just purchased the Cam Timing Tools to do the tensioners, chains, guides etc. on my car. I have two Cam Locking Bars (Camshaft setting tool), the Crankshaft setting/lockdown, two Primary Timing Chain Wedges and the Chain Tensioning tool. These cost me $410 plus shipping. Typically when you rent them, say from Motorcars LTD, you only get one Cam lockdown bar and they charge $125 plus a big deposit.
The job is not that difficult but it is involved. This Forum has excellent articles plus other sources that gave me the to courage to do it myself. I saved over $1300 in labor. Now I'd like to recoup some of the cost for the tools. Contact me at "ssmoleroff@aol.com".
Three forum members have rented the tools and they have all been satisfied. I include complete instructions, plus had an excellent article posted in the FAQ section. Rent is $100, plus $25 shipping. I ask for a $250 deposit and refund $125 when tools are returned to me.

STEVE----HOW MUCH FOR YOU AND THE TOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have XJR 2002 and live in crystal river--------VECTOR and i are going to do this soon, hopefully-------------he"s in charge!!!----i am a dummy(OLD dummy!!) Bkrdoug
Call me at 386-479-6263.
I did my XKR which is of course the same engine, but the engine bay is different. The only way I would consider doing it is if you brought it to me so I can use my lift. I live in Deland (guess you saw that on my profile).
I would STRONGLY recommend doing the whole job. By that I mean, Primary & Secondary tensioners, chains, guides, gaskets, seals. You can shop around but I paid a fair price I think at Motorcars LTD (motorcarsltd.com) for the kit...and the tools. I changed out the spark plug o-ring gaskets and valve cover seals as well. I was quoted about $2250 (not including the extra valve cover gaskets--about $80, but I hear Felpro makes them too)...at All Jaguar in Longwood and thus decided to do the job myself. While I was at it, I replace the spark plugs, all the pulley bearings, serpentine belts and water pump...you may consider doing that if you haven't.
I won't quote a price at the moment as I'm finishing up painting a 63 Corvette. And then a friend has a Z-Car he wants me to paint. If you could wait a few months it will be too cold to paint, and perfect for mechanical work for me. I know I won't even consider it for less than $500 plus parts. Anyway, call me if you like and we can discuss it.
PS. I had 65K miles on mine and the secondary tensioners where about to fail, and the guides had serious cracks. So I would advise you drive it sparingly until it's done.
