Default 2005 Rearview Mirror Removal (w/pics) FAQ

Using a small blade flat screw driver, insert and twist abit between the upper and lower plastic cover. It was kind of a tight fit between the 2 pieces.

Note the "hook" shaped tabs in the following photos. I believe I damaged the lower bottom tab in second picture. But when reassembled everything went back tight, just like factory...Becarefull. I found it easier to twist the upper plastic piece out first then using the flat screwdriver again to seperate the lower plastic piece from the windshield mount.

upper plastic piece:

lower plastic piece:

Finally disconnect electrics and slide mirror down off windshield mount. No tools required.

**NOTE** Take your time and be really carefull with the screwdriver, it slipped on the first picture, could have done some damage possibly but did not hit anything!

Just out of curiosity Rick, why did you pull the mirror? And oh, your instructions only work for the cars with the electrochromatic self dimming mirror. My lowly 03 Base S-Type has the regular style mirror with the foot glued to the windshield like an old school American car.

My X-Type has your mirror.

Take care,

George

In another thread someone asked for help. Just thought I would!

Also I figured it would be more than likely FAQ'd for later use.
