Looks like the coolant expansion (aka header) tank. They age and crack - just replacing it is the fix. There are several kinds so be sure to match your car. It has a tricky bottom clip mentioned in other threads that must be refitted properly as a leak would be a disaster.

Throttle body hose. The SC V-8 uses the bottom TB the N/A V-8 uses the top one.

This is the dreaded hose under the SC!

Well, it's done. I decided I would be keeping this Jag for another 2 to 3 years, and I wanted it to be more reliable on long trips. With encouragement from some forum members, decided to replace all 13 remaining hoses (5 already replaced). Details below show part numbers for the 2005 STR, an approx landed price in Canada from eBay or Terry's Jag, and what my indie (who got the hoses for me) actually charged. Special deal, more than eBay, less than Jag dealer.

Part number........ Description................................ eBay/Terry's... Indie price......
AJ811638........... Thermostat water outlet............ ..... $40.......... .... $45
AJ811758........... Thermostat to throttle body...... .......$13.......... .... $17
AJ811771.......... Coolant tank recovery............... ...... $42.......... .... $94
AJ88507............ Intake to heater control valtve.... ..... $15.......... .... $22
AJ89746............ Throttle body coolant return...... ...... $22.......... .... $24
XR851818.......... Upper radiator coolant hose...... ...... $45......... .... $57
XR841800......... Heater Feed hose..................... .......$41.......... .... $61
XR850719......... Heater hose........................... ....... $42 ......... .... $54
XR850720......... Heater hose........................... ....... $42 ......... .... $54
XR837410.......... S/C to radiator...................... ....... $46 ......... .... $63
XR837411.......... S/C to aux pump................... ....... $80 ......... ... $115
XR837414......... Coolant reservoir hose............ ....... $52 ........ ...... $78
XR837415......... Expansion tank lower hose..... ........ $93 ........ .... $129
XR841496.......... Lower radiator hose.............. ....... $73 .......... ... $109
XR841497......... Return hose, radiator to S/C... ....... $90 ......... .... $115
XR849184......... Bleed, exp. tank to engine...... ....... $32 ........ ...... $46
XR851819......... Coolant hose, pump to engine ........ $51 ........ ...... $65
XR857523.......... HVAC heater hose (triple-hose) ... $125 ........ ..... $177

GRAND TOTAL COST of ALL HOSES ----------------> $944 ............. $1325

All of the above, plus 7+ hours labor @ $108/hr. Not cheap, but too late now. Let's hope it's gonna be worth it. At least right now everything works perfectly, and my preventive maintenance program is complete.

Interesting little follow up - as STR owners already know, space is at a premium in the engine compartment, not much wiggle room for hoses.

When the job was complete, the mechanic turned on the engine and let the car run for a good long time at normal operating temperature, checking all the hoses for leaks. Everything looked good, and the car was released.

Unfortunately, one hose in particular runs very close to a moving belt. The mechanic figured the clearance was adequate. However, after two or three days driving with occasional WOT, I smelled coolant! Sure enough, the slight movement of the engine block had brought the belt into contact with the hose and gradually cut a hole in it.

Indy owner very apologetic, new hose fitted, all cleaned up. Moral of the story – no substitute for a thorough test drive.

I just completed this same repair/preventative maintenance.

Our '05 has 90K on the clock and had sprung a leak in a very accessible hose. I made the decision to go full bore and replace them all in one go. It's going to be a keeper type car and needs to be reliable for family transport.

There was one difficult to locate hose in the EPC. It is the very small hose running between the supercharger radiator and the coolant tank. Image doesn't show on EPC. It's item #5. Part # XR837414

I also replaced the DCCV with the Ford one and did belts, plugs, and an oil change at the same time.

All told I spent two weekends tackling this job. Total parts cost was about $1,600.00. I didnt have time to shop for a deal on the hoses so just paid full retail at local dealer. This included all parts not just the hoses and coolant.

The only other car I have worked on with this much "spaghetti" in the engine bay is a client's Renault A-310! Same deal, have to pull manifold to replace hoses...

Cooper

That hose is shown as #3 in my JEPC diagram of the inter-cooler system.

Corrected part # in original post. (XR837414) This shown looking at the coolant tank diagram on EPC.
Fat fingers typing on iPhone... Thanks for the catch!

Quick question, Will the hose part number all applicable to 05 XJR or they have difference in hose length and part number?

Thanks.

I can't see a part no for the no#18 coolant hose for the EGR !
Is the 05 Str revised without it fitted ?
Mine is swollen near the hose clamp next to the temp senser ,
And jag bits don't list the part ether ! Does any one have info on this pipe and no#8 for that matter ? Thanks

Recently had mechanic fix leaking hoses.
11 hoses later with new expansion tank included to the tune of $1580. USD
my concern is that the ones not changed will soon crack. I told the guy that he should have called me and i would have changed all of them. Now I'm waiting for the Low Coolant light.

All dealers and many online sites show hoses based on VIN.
