Default VVT part number?

I went to the dealership and they sold me aj810570 (solenoid valve) and ensured me it was the correct part. I not really paying attention and go ahead and pull the valve cover off and look at my part and BAM!! it's totally different. Go figure. The part number on my part is XR8E 6B297 AD. I can't find this ANYWHERE.

Is there an interchange part number or something?

That's not really a part number, that's what's called a WERS Number. It translates to XR816235, which is the correct solenoid for your 1st generation V6. The part they sold you is for a much later 4.2L V8 engine. Shame on them.

Cheers,

xjrguy,

I've been trying to understand the WERS vs part number. You obviously have access to a cross reference of some kind. Is this available/can you point me to a source so I can do some research?

In the WERS system, there is often a suffix (-AD, -BG, etc) can you enlighten me on what these are? Is the first letter a country code with the second letter being a "one-up" revision level or something like that?

It seems that if you are going to buy something off ebay (e.g.) that sellers typically highlight the WERS but without knowing the jag part number, one is left wondering whether the used part will work. Any enlightenment/encouragement here?

Just curious how you determined your VVT Solenoid needs replacing? They typically do not fail, especially the V6 solenoids..
