which is a bit more than an oil change, as it includes an Electronic Vehicle Health Check and a top-up oil kit, but even so....

£149 - which is about $230

Kwik Fit can do it for £54.95 $84.78 for 3000cc and above engine size with the oil of you choice. They will also do an m.o.t test for £20 if booked at the same time.

I think thats value for money

Forgot to mention they will also replace your brake pads and then keep replacing them for free for as long as you own the car, i had 5 sets off them for free on my previous car.

OK. My local garage will do an oil and filter change, overall condition inspection and plug in a code scanner (if I ask) for about $60CDN, 37 pounds sterling. To me Jag and their dealers just hurt themselves by charging unreasonable amounts for routine servicing.

 

Have to agree 150 quid for an oil change? they're having a laugh.

I'm assuming they want the electronic check to drum up business, I doubt this is the way to do it.

Well, must say I have the same issue with Audi, although not quite so bad.

£100 oil + filter change!

To be fair though, I use the OEM recommended Castrol Syntec ( Edge ) 05w30 longlife oil which is damn expensive stuff at around £14 per litre. Needing 4 litres or so+ filter I estimate around £60 and can't really buy much cheaper anywhere so get it done at the dealers.

My wifes VW Passat also uses the exact same spec of oil, I found that National tyres will do an oil + filter change for around £35 - £40 using the exact correct spec of oil!!!!!

HEADS UP UK guys - I can't even buy the oil + filter for that price so why would I do it myself?

Just another perfect example of why I just crawl under the car and do it myself....

Then I also check my car myself as well.....

 

I use an oilvac for alternate oil changes only changing the filter every second change. Its really quick so I end up doing it more often which should keep the engine fit for its second 100,000 miles. The guy I bought it off used main dealers and had paid £1400 for a single service including 2 tyres and two brake discs and pads and gearbox reflash. The argument about keeping up resale value by using a jaguar dealer didnt work for him as he had spent more in servicing over 4 years than he sold the car for at seven years old. Maybe for the first three years of the cars life its different.

 

I just had the Jag in for 60k service, diagnostic for a lit up engine light and a state inspection-- $360.

According to the invoice, the oil & filter were about $60.
The 60k service (labor) + diagnostic $209
Another $70ish for wipers, various filters and "shop supplies" which were explained to me as the various fluids used for a top-up.
Add to all that tax and the $16 inspection fee.

Thankfully my codes were all old and meaningless non-issues.

Overall, I don't mind a $60 oil change at my trusted servicer even if it means I have to drive all the way down to Virginia Beach. I've seen dumb things happen at the quick lube places. (My aunt lost her adorable 83 Nissan Pulsar because a rushed kid at a Jiffy Lube failed to put her oil plug back in!)

 

Just do it yourself. No one else will be as meticulous about pouring the fluids, no one else will triple-check to make certain that all bolts and screws and caps are properly tightened after service is complete, no one else will take mega-extreme care to keep your interior completely stain-free from stray oil and grease splatters. Maybe I'm overly ****, but I just don't want any young, barely trained kids working on our vehicles. And regardless of where you go in the automotive service industry these days, you just cannot avoid them....

Was your service at a dealer or indy? My dealer is about $100.00 for a LOF so your is a great price if it is the dealer.

And you can have a good look round to detect any incipient problems.

 

$70ish at Minneapolis Jaguar/Land Rover. Considering there's $40-50 worth of parts, the $20-30 for labor is worth it for me (time value of money and all that).

 

It's independant-(www.abacusracing.com)- all older fellows--reminds me of my dad and his cronies.

If I had the inclination, tools, proper working area I'd be game to try it myself. My dad insisted that I be able to change my own tires, oil and other basic maintenance (jumpstarts, wipers etc) before I could get my license. The Jag isn't an old Buick, the only thing I do myself is the washing & detailing.. Dad also taught me to admit you know when you're in over your head and not be embarassed to take it to a professional in lieu of screwing up something pricey.
