2000 - 2002 S Type models...

In looking at replacement units for my front upper control arms I came across the following at www.amazon.com

Front Right: Part No: XR856012 - $78.86

Front Left: Part No: XR856013 - $78.93

I spent a total of: $157.79 w/ free shipping!

www.jagbits.com has the same part numbers listed at a cost of: $279.95 each + shipping...

The kicker is amazon shows one of these as "temporarily out of stock" - you order them, pay for them and they send you an estimated date of delivery and of course your CC is not charged until they ship.

They both were out of stock when I ordered and they took less than 2 weeks to arrive. Not bad considering the savings... I figured I would pass this on...

 

Good deal. I just got 2 off ebay for $168 shipped and i need to order a couple more

 

Anything to look for when replacing or fairly simple?

 

Are upper control arms a problem?
Where do I inspect for ware and are there no bushings that can be replaced,Thanks

 

The bushings can be replaced. I believe these can be purchased via Ebay and www.rockauto.com - The joint in the center of the upper control arm is not replacable and would require the replacement of the upper control arm.

 

I had mine replaced at the shop - but are straight forward to replace. Just ensure you "pre-load" the suspension before tightening everything up to avoid premature failure of the upper control arms.

 

Next time I need upper A-arms, my plan is to replace them with adjustable A-arms that you can build up yourself. Perhaps from speedway Engineering or Specialty Products Company.
