00 S-Type V6 rough/bouncy suspension

Helped my brother get a 2000 S-Type with the 3.0 V6 - 122K miles. According to the original window sticker, it has the sport/memory package. The suspension is extremely stiff and very "bouncy" at any speed. Kinda like an old lincoln with the air suspension out. Quite possibly the roughest riding car I have ever driven. Is this normal?? I always heard that to test the shocks, you push down on a corner of the vehicle and see how much it bounces. This car has no give - it's just solid when you push down on a corner - no movement whatsoever! This can't be normal can it?? It was previously owned by an older couple so I doubt they had it lowered or anything. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
:Forgot to mention that there weren't any dash warning lights on or anything... Until I purposely was messing around diagnosing the bad coil pack - now the check engine light is on - from what I hear, that is a good thing since now it should have a code to tell me which cylinder has the bad coil
Other problems with the car - I have found answers to almost all of these by searching the forum - Thanks everyone!!
1. Rough idle, jerky acceleration at low rpm's
--One of the coil packs is out
2. Key will not go in driver's door all the way - can't turn it or anything
-- Couldn't find any help on this one
- If keyless remote goes out I'm screwed!
3. Doors won't stay locked when exiting car & using the interior lock button - they lock and then unlock again within 1-2 seconds - stay locked fine when using the keyless remote
-- Normal operation - Thanksstyper526
4. Shifter slips out of drive sometimes
--Needs cable adjustment
5. Short in tail light (2nd from left) - When you hit it, it starts working!
6. Heated Seats don't work
--Found info about fuses and wiring under the seat

Maybe the previous owner (before the older ones) replaced the shocks or did a suspension mod. Could be why the wanted out of the car as well. Best to get it up and remove the wheels. shoot some pictures of what you see on there (front and back), and the techs/s-type owners that roam here can give you some insight.
good luck!

Thanks for the info - will have it in the shop this weekend and will have the wheels off since the rotors need turning. How can you tell if these cars have the CATS system? It seems like it must, otherwise there would be some play and/or up& down movement if it hadsprings... Maybe the CATS control module is acting up? Any way to flash or reset it? Thanks again!

So you're saying the system might be off? Is there a switch to turn it back on? Is it possible that all 4 shocks/struts are bad or maybe just the control module? There is no "check cats system" light on or anything...
