03 S-Type - Car audio works but no controls
Hey everyone, wondering if anybody else has had any issues with their audio systems maintaining audio but slowly losing all controls to it. When I acquired the car everything worked fine except for the CDC in the trunk, that had failed years ago (family car). I swapped the CDC with a like for like from a pick and pull and all seemed fine. Not long after, that area of the trunk got wet and problems rolled in. I disassembled everything in the trunk area to dry off before reinstalling. After reinstallation, all equipment seemed to work for a time. Then when driving, the audio would cut out and come back randomly. Eventually I lost the ability to use the audio related controls on the steering wheel, then I lost ability to switch between CD, CDC, and radio, then I lost the ability to use any audio related features on the touch screen except for pausing the song currently playing (I'm currently stuck with one singular CD to listen to in the slot in the main head unit), and the last thing to act up is now the volume knob just does what it wants when I turn volume up or down. All other electronics in the car work with no issues, all other features of the touch screen work, aircon, satnav, general settings, no issues. I checked all fuses and nothin untoward there either. I tried swapping out the amp in the trunk for another one (got a matching unit # which was a farce) and that made no difference. Do you guys think the issue is in the trunk, up in the head unit, or somewhere in the middle with the electronics? Just to make it clear, for radio related stuff, the only things working are the audio itself, the volume knob sort of, and then the pause/play button on the touch screen. Thanks for any help or ideas!
