Default STR transmission shifting short of 6100 rpm

I have a 2003 STR. Has there been a remedy for the short shifts before redline? The quick shift from 1st to 2nd, etc. is not taking advantage of full engine power.

Today i got my new key cut and the FOBs reprogrammed since they lost programming somehow.

I also got the TCM updated to the lasted programming. In a little bit I'll be taking her out to see if shfting has improved- praying for some consistent 6k shifts in the meantime.

TCM update made no change at all. the new tires are very grippy so it didn't even really spin off the line for my 4 test runs 0-90. Each time it shifted right at 5500 to 2nd, and right at 5750 to 3rd.

However, on the way home, from a stop, it smoked 1st and shifted a little higher, around 5900... different road, less grip

My old tires would break loose 2nd gear when the weather was cold, and absolutely roast 1st. I wonder if the tires spinning have something to do with it "allowing" the transmission to shift higher?

Other thought- would an ECM update help?

They should have reflashed the PCM as well as the TCM (and likely did).

it's not specifically mentioned on the list of service done, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done. hopefully they did

Forgot to mention this tidbit, Mike at Eurotoys said he could not change shift points with an ECU tune.

Shift points are a function of the TCM, though it's been reported that ECU tunes have resulted in later shift points.

Correct. Which is why I've been considering going with modern horsepowers ECU/TCM tune which gets rave reviews at the bimmer and benzo forums. Food for thought

I would guess that the only way to get the R to shift at close to redline would be programming. Just curious if there is a real solid reason that Jaguar decided to do that to the R. My 3.0 runs all the way to redline in every gear. I ask since maybe they know of a limitation in the trans or rear when attached to the super charged engine and did it deliberately to stop any unwanted instances of self destruction.

(I recall that the only time I've heard of a ZF blowing up was when WhiteSTR blew his up)

Mafioso and I recently had a discussion on how to teach her later shifts. He affirmed what I had suspected due to the multitudes of attempts to launch her off the line without the ABS and ECU cutting in...You can coax her to shift near redline by not stomping on the pedal from a stop but stomping it down after rolling her a few feet off the line. This is especially more evident and important when wearing new rubber. Her old worn rubber allowed mean burn outs from a stop. Though this felt and looked cool, it hurts the time slip.

blaksplash, from a stop lightly hit the gas, she'll roll, then stab it. Apparently, Jag didn't want burnouts.
