Default 03 STR - Won't Crank, Won't Start!

Strange problem with my 2003 S-type R.

Recently performed some work on the car, had the battery disconnected.

Reconnect battery, go to start the car.

Turn the key to START, won't crank. Battery is not dead.

It seems like an immobilizer has kicked in or a fuse has blown. I checked all fuses visually, but I'll need to try with a multimeter tomorrow to be absolutely sure.

When I turn the key to ON, the usual assortment of dash lights do not illuminate.

Instead, only the ABS light turns on and off as I go from ACC>ON.

After a few more tries, the "brake" and "oil pressure" warning lights have switched on, and now are permanently ON, despite the fact I've removed the ky, shut the door, walked away...

Not happy right now... maybe someone has some ideas.

How will I know if the car has been immobilized?

Also, could someone check their trunk fusebox and tell me which way the diode arrow faces on the diode found in position labelled D1 here.

What work were you doing? Any chance you disturbed something?
Is the pats light, the red one on top of the dash doing anything?

I was just doing brakes, had front bumper off and headlights removed, had the climate control module removed and repaired, and some odds and ends.

After extensive searching, I found ONE other post on the forums describing a problem similar to mine. That guy had a multitude of other electrical issues, but did mention he ended up finding a 'big' fuse in one of the fuse boxes, that despite a visual inspection verifying it as OK, test with a multimeter proved to be faulty. Replacement of it fixed the issue.

When I get home today, I will have my multimeter on me, and go over fuse and do further electrical testing.

I just need a clarification on that DIODE issue. I pulled a diode out of the trunk mounted fuse panel, out of slot labelled D1. I did it haphazardly, and did not check which way the DIODE arrow is oriented. Can anyone check their trunk fuse box for the one and only DIODE found inside, under slot D1, and tell me which way the DIODE direction is facing. Whether is toward the front of the car, or pointed towards the rear.

I don't want to replace that DIODE in the wrong direction.

Thanks guys

It can't do any damage but will stop things working if in the wrong way round - if it even can be put in the wrong way (bad design if it can).

Others have had damaged wiring behind the bumper so that would be my next place to look.

Car starts... battery was dead... *cough cough* ... yea...

edit: i do have an EPB fault now though, i did the brakes and removed spot calipers too. I started the car with the new battery, kept prompting me to engage the parking brake, the EPB button did nothing.
I tried the EPB reset procedure, but seemingly, all it did was throw the BRAKE and ABS warning lamps, and a message saying "PARKING BRAKE FAULT"

Those are normal rebooting sequences following battery disconnect.
