My STR had its front grill replaced before I got it but they used a grill with the chrome surround and chrome mesh. The top mounting tab is also broken. So ive been looking for a grill and had no luck until today.

which looks to be brand new.

my car is black and the description of the XR847243XXX says its primered painted surround although it looks to be black.

does the grill need to be painted? And if so, how much of the surround gets painted? Does the part that has the top mounting tabs get painted too or does it stay that dark aluminum color?

Lastly, does the mesh come out for painting?I guess I can figure it out once I get one in my hands but if anyone knows, let me know.

On my 06 str, the painted portion to match the car color is what you see with hood closed...basically the grill surround...it looks like the grill surround can be removed from the attaching frame via clips...the attaching frame is standard gray...i cannot tell if the mesh is removable from the surround because my tabs are broken and glued to the upper bumper cover so i dont remove it unless i absolutely have to

 

Those top mounting tabs always seem to break. I have two used grills and both have broken tabs. I bet this might be the last NOS STR grill on earth. I hate to install it. Itll be worth thousands in the ten years!’ Lol

 

yeah, they are rare....broke mine by leaning into it...only takes 5 minutes to remove...stupid me

 

Im sure I will break my new on in short order!

maybe I should do some sort of reinforcement to make it it idiot proof.

so I went and looked to see if these are NLA and the answer is yes but no way! Body parts arent cheap!
