Hello, having a problem getting the original grill color for the 1996 XJ12, previous owner put in a mesh grill, I believe the OEM is Black, however I’m getting conflicted pictures, any Ideas?

 

The original grill inserts were thick painted chrome in color on a plastic part

Used ones from a salvage car can vary in condition and rock chips

The outer grill surround is different between the premium and standerd X300 models but the mounting for the insert is the same

The website has changed recently so give me a bit

on a salvage part look for broken mounting ears but they can be overcome

 

Black would be the original type grill vanes for the XJ12, although I have seen some cars with chrome. I think some owners preferred chrome (or mesh!) and they were easy to swap out, even from the dealer when new.

Keep in mind that ALL of the 1997 XJ6 (not Vanden Plas) in the USA had black grills too. That means you are more likely to find some for sale if you want to go back to black.

 

Thank for all your help, got the right grill and finally got the engine problem fixed after 6 months, runs like a top!!!

 

And all that was needed was the correct grille, right?

Not to minimize your troubles. What kind of work was needed to bring her back?
