1999 Stype 3.0lt
Salutations,
My 1999 S type recently disgraced itself by having to be brought home on an RAC low loader. Cruising at 60mph the engine suddenly died and i managed to coast off to a safe area. The RAC was summoned as it would not start even though it was turning over freely. 3 days after it was safely returned home an RAC patrol came out to give me a diagnosis but the ******* started first time! So no diagnosis. I had a similar problem with my recently deceased XJ40 and it turned out to be a dodgy crankshaft sensor which would fail when hot but work fine once cooled down. Is this a similar common fault with the S type? I originally suspected a failing fuel pump but I have found with past experience that these electric pumps just die and cannot be resuscitated. Any suggestions?

Have you hooked your Jag up to a diagnostic code reader to see if there are any stored DTCs? As to potential culprits, when was the last time the fuel filter was changed?
If you find codes, you can post then here and we will be happy to assist.

I have an el cheapo OBDII but it shows no codes. My son in law has a better reader for his S type diesel and i will borrow that. I did start it again today and it fired up but smoked a bit which it has never done before so it could be dodgy supermarket petrol. As soon as i get the codes i will post them but thanks for the help.
