At first it looks like this wouldn't apply to your model...but hang on until post #6, when a member with a pre-facelift model like yours joins in. If you elect to free it up by jacking up a rear wheel rather than rocking as Bob suggests...please remember that this has most likely occurred cause you've parked on an incline. Take proper precautions when jacking.

OP is stuck in Park, so the quick fix is to ask some mates to assist in gently pushing the car UP the slope it's on until the shifter can move out of Park.
Here's how I'd do it in my '01 S-Type. With ignition in 'ON' position, foot off the brake pedal, and handbrake down, push the car UP the incline until the shifter comes free. Then step on the brake pedal, pull the handbrake up, try starting the car in Neutral. If that doesn't work, return the shifter to Park, start the car and hope there are no more problems getting it out of Park.
Buy all involved a round of Guiness at the nearest pub.
To avoid this problem on pre-facelift models (1999-2002), get in the habit of always pulling up on the handbrake BEFORE taking your foot off the brake pedal when you park. This is especially important on even the slightest incline.
