2000 S-Type - TRACTION CONTROL FAULT + ABS Light
Hi Leonard,
Sorry to say but you have bought one of the cheap and cheerfully inaccurate OBD2 code scanners. You need a model that supports the Jaguar Model Range such as the i930 (LR2 I think is the better one) but costs about £100. These allow you to select the model and year of your vehicle before scanning ALL the control modules - there are dozens of them on the S Type - one of which is dedicated to the ABS system.
As far as the symptoms you are seeing are concerned. This is almost certainly a dud wheel sensor or reluctor ring - most probably one the rear ones. If the relevant DTC for a failed sensor is not manually cleared from the ABS controller the warning light will come on in the dashboard at start up and the Traction Control Warning Light will certainly come on after a few yards of travel. The EML may also come on and the car may then drop into Limp Home Mode.
The stuff you sprayed around the Traction Control Switch should have had plenty of time to dry out by now. Almost certainly this is not your problem.
Where are you in the UK? If you happen to live near Ludlow in Shropshire, or can get there reasonably easily I could put my scanner on the car for you. That said, £30-35 at a Jag dealer or Jag Indie will get all the codes from all the controllers and they will re-set them for you. If theres a real problem the ABS, TCS and possibly EML will light up again.
Cheers,
Cubist

Thanks Cubist,
Ludlow is too far out for us i'm afriad...
Guess we'll get them read by a third party.
Hopefully this is a knackered sensor and not something altogether major.
Will update on the outcomes!

Ok guys,
Just an update.
Turned out to be a faulty rear-wheel ABS Sensor - I think I gave this an unexpected blast of extra-special wheel-cleaner back in November.
All sorted, no more MIL Warning.
So if anybody has the symptoms described in my posts above, you know where to start.
Regards
