Default 2000 S Type transmission issue

Just "given" 2000 S type 3 liter 104K miles with the following problems: Transmission issues- won't go up hill in reverse; Will not acclerate aggressively going forward; This is the 2nd transmission on this car. Climate issues- Heat just quit; Water in the trunk. Jag dealer wants $600 to run error codes and estimates "Unlimited costs to solve the problems. I have an offer on the table to swap current Jag powerplant & trany for a Ford powerplant & trany.

I would appreciate advice anyone could render. My sincerest thanks.

Looks like you're right up against the reason you got it given -- someone's been spending a fortune on it, and eventually got fed up.
If it's a project, you need good mechanical, electrical, and electronic knowlege, plus more than a little Jag-specific knowlege and experience. OR, failing that, you have access to someone with that very knowlege. This website can only go so far with advice by remote control, as 'twere. Hope you have plenty garage room, plenty tackle, and a pit. Very useful for some jobs, a pit. Best of luck with it.

Ford 5R55N gearbox faults are common (similar to the Ford EXPLODER, the name jokingly given the Explorer because of the transmission)

Heater Dual Climate Control Valve failure is common.

Water in boot has been going on since the car was introduced!!!!!!
Many TSBs

My solution was to punch a small hole in the boot floor near the battery of almost every S-Type that came into the dealership until we could find and repair the leak. It gave the car a fighting chance of surviving the leaking seals and destroying the rear electronics.

Finding and fixing the leak is important, but providing a drain saves things until you find it!!!!!
