Default 2000 stype water pump replacement clip

I've replaced my water pump using the stype service manual and there was a step to discard the accessory belt tensioner clip? I did but was wondering if that clip needs to be replaced? I've asked a few friends on other vehicles and they thought it was unneccessary.

Thoughts?

No thoughts? I was hoping someone else had changed their water pump on a Stype. Clip, or no clip?

I've no idea what the clip is for so don't know - but usually anything you discard you renew. An exception would be things used solely during manufacture but you have to be pretty sure you know what you're doing! I'd ask the dealer what the clip is IF I didn't know.

The clip is used to set the tension arm, locking it in place. And according to the manual you don't always replace what you discard. And I'm not sure why they state discard it since it could easily be used again. I assumed since it wasn't needed? If you've changed your water pump you'd run into this. The clips purpose was to make sure the tension arm wasn't moved without reason. It's for the accessory belt, that arm is pretty strong. You need a tool to leverage it away to take off that belt.

I expect you're right (but I wouldn't know as I've a 4.2 2004 car with SC; it's quite a bit different).
