Default 2001 3.0L V8 - Replacing automatic shift cable

Hi All,

My new to me Jag is exhibiting some issues that seem to scream shift cable issues. In general it drives fine (Fantastically, in fact) but things get a bit terse when shifting between gearbox options and it dropped into neutral a couple of times.

I've adjusted the cable which has improved things (and seems to have cured the dropping into Neutral), but I can't still can't get into the low range gears (3 & 2). As in, physically, the stick won't go there. This is definitely cable or gearbox related (As opposed to shifter/surround) because it does the same when I remove all of the shifter plastics and I can't see anything that's broken.

I can see lots of mentions of people replacing this cable, but being new to Jags and Autos (never owned either) I was hoping to find a proper guide. I downloaded JTIS and I can't see anything related to gearbox/transmission at all.

Would you kind people be able to point me in the right direction?

And would you agree it's the right course of action? Still fairly confident I haven't purchased a total lemon, but I'll be over the moon if I can get it a little more right!

Cheers, Dan!
