I have a 2001 Jaguar s-type v8. I have got a rattling problem which is annoying the hell out of me. The shade that covers the sunroof glass is going all the way in, but it is suppose to stop quarter foot before. I guess the hinge that hold the shade is broken. because when I accelerate something slides back and when i break it comes forward, also when the car goes through rough road, the car keeps rattling from the area of the car.


Does anyone know what exactly is wrong with my car and how to fix it?

bhurock, if you look there should be a set of slides that your shade slides on. If you pull the shade most of the way closed, you can lift up on the shade slightly and see the posts where the shade is mounted to these slides. Normally there is some kind of either metal block that the shade slides on or there are wheels on the end. What it sounds like happened is one of these managed to break/fall off which allowed the shade to become loose, allowing the others to fall off. These pieces are probably what you are hearing rattling as you are driving. The trick will be getting these back on the shade. Unfortunately, looking at how the shade is installed, this is going to require pulling the headliner out of your car so you can access the slides. The JTIS doesn't get into a lot of detail that I can find on the shade.

It isn't anything fancy. If I remember right, all you have is a U-channel on each side that the shade rides inside of. There are no good pics inside of the JTIS. So, I wish you the best of luck. I think once you get the headliner down and out of the way, your problem will be pretty self-evident and the fix will be obvious.
