Question 2001 S-type passenger side mirror

I have an adjustable mirror that performs all functions except tilting downward. The control switch works for all functions on the drivers side so I have ruled out this switch as the problem. I suspect that the mirror motor has failed for the downward tilting function. Does anyone know if this mirror motor can be replaced or does the entire mirror assembly have to be retro-fitted? Also, any experience with the difficulty of the repair.

I've got almost the same problem, except it's my left/right that has failed on the same mirror. I don't mind pulling it apart to troubleshoot, but I'd love to hear a few pointers from someone who's done it first.

I have a friend who is a service consultant at the Jaguar dealership in Knoxville, TN. He tells me that it is possible to replace just the mirror motor rather than the entire mirror assembly. He knows that I prefer to DIY and suggested hitting the salvage yards. I don't want to buy another used motor with issues is my reservation at this point.

However, like you I would also like to hear from someone who has tackled this issue prior. Preferably so I know what to look out for that will "pop", "break", "fly apart" or any of the other potential problems that could occur.

Jagbreeder tells me to get a complete assembly so that I have spare parts. He seems to know Jaguars mechanically. He has answered my other questions exactly. Exterior electronic mirror issues must be common on the S-types?

If they were common, Search would find previous posts. Did it?

Actually,

The closest I've come is something I just found yesterday...had to go across the pond to find it.

http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/viewtop...+mirror+remove

The information is for the XK8 mirror (I'm hoping the mirrors from the XK8 and S-Types are assembled in a similar manner). It's also not really about mechainical failure of the mirror adjustment, but the conversation does reference removal of the forward facing body colored part and the mirror itself (but not how to remove the entire unit...which I'd still like to know about).

Hopefully, the procedure is close enough to apply to the S-Type. I'll dig in this next weekend. Still, to answer your question, I didn't find that it's a common problem.

Default Guys Im starting to think it is a control module

Guys Im starting to think it is a control module issue-

BOTH drivers and passengers mirror will only tilt outward ----No up/down----No tilt in------ BOTH mirrors-

I pulled the switch and it has NO COMPONENTS-only connections-that go ???????? Where?

Cleaned the contacts checked the board on the switch--

Interestingly--- After I unplugged the switch for the mirrors -- The turn signals on each direction blipped twice then started operating correctly...

Im thinking this might \be a wiper/mirror module issue??

Do we have such a thing??
