well i've worked through all the codes except the P1388 which must be the reason the car runs fine for about 2 min with driving than it loses power and sometimes dies. my friend who is pretty good with cars believes the engine had been worked on and the timing wasnt set correctly on the VCT solenoid valve in bank 2 is stuck open.
if it is the timing how do i go about setting it correctly. i have a jaguar timing tool kit however i dont know how to go about using it properly to get the timing correct.

It probably doesn't die due to that. More likely an air leak - watch fuel trims.

I can't tell if the tensioners have been changed on the replacement engine or not?
Have you pulled a cam cover to check?


They do need to be changed and they could be your problem.
