Default 2003 S type engine sound is louder

Hi,

I have a 03 jaguar s type with 112000 miles and since few weeks engine sound became louder on speeds more than 30mph and also time to time I notice engine oil sign is coming when I am in complete stop but when I start it goes away

A year ago had spark plugs and ignition coils changed

Any help is really appreciated

If I understand you, you've VERY LOW oil pressure except at speed. Do not drive it till fixed.

+1

I would add that if the light is on you are very low in oil pressure all the time. The light usually goes out at just a few PSI. Anything much over idle and the motor needs more oil pressure than what it takes to put out that light to be happy. Check the oil level before starting the car again and add oil as needed...

Hopefully that fixes the noise you are hearing. If not, please let us know exactly what noise it makes with the correct amount of oil in it.

Again, do not start the car without checking the oil level with the dipstick and adding whatever amount of oil is needed to put the oil level between the "add" and "full" marks on the stick.

Sometimes the "OIL" cap is mislabeled, on some vehicles they numbered it rather than lettered it, look for "710".

Appreciate everyone's feedback

I did not check my engine oil level recently but will check now

With the same sound when I checked last time oil level was good and no issues

I have been driving it for sometime with the sound and did not realize the risk

Since one week I am noticing the engine oil sign on my dashboard so not sure

What's the cost of getting fixed this kind of problem

You need oil pressure or the engine will rapidly destroy itself.

No one can possibly guess what it will cost to fix until the root cause of the problem is determined. There's dozens of things that might cause low oil pressure and 'noises'. It's possible that the two are not related.

I'm guessing you have little or no experience with working on cars. Now is not the time to learn. Please take the car to a trusted mechanic and give him as much information as possible.

I have found a guy on craiglist who claims to be jaguar specialist and not sure if it's good idea to go to him

I need advice on if this is a good idea. Should I try dealer or any other workshops

Reason for going to this craiglist guy is I am tired of dealer's work and want's to save money

Appreciate any ideas or thoughts around this

Do you have the ability to open the hood and check the oil? The dipstick is in plain view on drivers side.

Thank you very much for a wonderful laugh!

710 indeed!

Similar to the letter to the editor of a local paper requesting the animal crossing sign be moved to less busy place because it would be safer for the animals to cross the road there!

You can guess who wrote that letter.

I got a feedback from dealer when I described my issue as below

Talking to my tech, first thing he said was to make sure that you have a Jaguar brand oil filter, after market filters don't also hold correct oil pressure. These vehicles typically don't have oil pressure issues, but we have replaced a number of sensors for this issue

Any thoughts on this

Ask the members of the regional "USA Mid West - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI" sub-forum to recommend a reliable, trustworthy Jag mechanic in your area. It's probably a better idea than picking one off of Craigs List.

Here's the link to that regional forum, which covers your area of the USA - USA Mid West - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI

Update on what happened in last couple of days on my issue

1. Took it to dealer for a diagnose to ensure nothing was wrong with engine

Dealer quoted the problem to be as below

1. Front right Hub and bearing that's creating the sound while driving - Got it fixed

Dealer quoted - $700

Craig list mechanic fixed for 200 including part from Autozone

2. Dealer suggested the reason for oil leak is due to Oil pressure sending unit is gone bad and needs to be replaced that would cost $300 if done by dealer

When I inquired about the oil sending unit it's just for $15 on amazon and ebay......Need help to see if this is something we can do

3. My ride was bit rough idling..dealer said it's due to Fuel injectors gone bad and needs to be cleaned - It's done by dealer which cost me around $460

What I am looking here is getting some help on Oil pressure sending unit...Can I do myself or need to get it done by local mechanic or Jaguar dealer

Any advise is sincerely appreciated

Have you stated what engine you have?

You might want to go to "UserCP" upper left corner of any site page, click "Edit Signature" ad year and engine at the least, click "Save". This will help us help you every time you have an inquiry.
