Default 2004 3.0 knock sensor

Good morning everyone,

I have just pulled out a restricted performance code for low input bank one knock sensor. I have literally not yet done anything else.

Question, is there any likely troubleshooting to do on this or should I just get online to source a new sensor and get the part into shipping?

Also, does anyone have input on whether I do this job over the fender, through the wheel well, or from underneath?

Lastly, I believe bank one is the RH side from the driver's seat. Can I get a confirmation on that?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

You might check it's not caused by
1. damp/water/oil
2. bad wiring/connector

Merry Christmas everyone,

Revisiting this topic again. This sensor has popped up intermittently and I've decided to give it a replacement. I've been underneath going up by the passenger side cat. The sensor is above the starter and beneath the exhaust manifold. I don't want to remove either. Does anyone have first hand experience doing this that can offer advice? This certainly seems a bitch to get to for an otherwise simple task.

While JTIS does tell you where to find it, it isn't much help in trying to perform the change out. I've purchased a borescope to see if I can actually get eyes on it but I haven't returned to the job yet to see if it helps enough. And to think that this is the easy one!

Thanks everyone,
Steve

Sorry no help on the 6 cylinders.
But at least you don't have the STR!
The entire blower has to come off to get to the knock sensors on the 4.2L SC engine.

Prior to getting involved on replacing the knock sensor(s), check the electrical connector and the wiring loom. If the issue is intermittent, it may just be high resistance through a connector.

Thanks for the suggestion. The connector looked drama-free and unplugged smootly. That part of the job was easy. The small portion of wire looks as expected and there is only aa short length of it on the sensor side to boot. I'm fine with the $100 gamble on the part and as bad as this job is looking to be, it will still be better than a harness repair.

Definitely appreciate the input though.
