Default 2004 Jaguar S-Type airbag light on

Looking for some assistance with my Jaguar S-Type 2.5V6 SE Auto (2004)

The airbag light on the dashboard is on. Took it to auto electrician who says the fault is showing up on his computer as passenger seat position sensor is faulty.

He can find the sensor in the driver's seat once removed, but can't seem to locate it on the passenger side.

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Welcome to the forum mate.

Without knowing the actual DTC (fault code) it's hard to say for sure if the sensor is actually faulty, or maybe it's just lost it's calibration.

We had a similar issue with a mates X350 XJ, the position sensor was "out of range" and required a reflash of the Restraints Module to fix the calibration. There was nothing actually wrong with the sensor.

Get the car to an Independant Jaguar specialist who has the IDS/SDD diagnostic system (there must be one nearby) and get them to try reflashing the restraints module. Pretty sure this will solve your problem.

+1 on needing the code, which will narrow down not only which item is suspect but also what's wrong

Also, When you say the airbag light on the dash. Do you mean the one on the actually instrument cluster or the one on the wooden/metal look dash panel passenger side ??

If You can get the actual fault code number from the guy who read it I can check for you what it is, I have all of them.

On the drivers side there is a hall effect switch (on the seat runners / frame) that senses the drivers seat postion, presumably it blows the bag slower or doesnt blow it when you are closer to the wheel.

The passenger side is more complicated there are 4 ultra-sonic spacial sensors, you can see then in the head liner and the A piller, there is also one in the centre consol, these are looking for a person in the seat and how close they are to the dash.

There is also a weight sensor and weight sensing control module. The weight sensor is in the seat base under the leather with the heater eliment (if you have heated seats)

Thanks for all your help people.

Don't know why it's now working all of a sudden. But airbag light is now functioning as it should (should clarify by saying it's the light on the dashboard on the drivers side that was staying on constantly). Auto spark took out the drivers seat and unplugged the sensor to see if it would register a fault on his machine, which it did along with the passenger seat.

He plugged the driver seat sensor back in again and all of a sudden everything's back to normal (still registering fault though on his machine for passenger side) It's been fine for the past couple of days, so I reckon I should just leave it alone??

With the SRS (Supplementary Restraint System), I would never go looking for trouble when it's operating correctly!

Be prepared to check for Flash Codes and DTC's if it plays up again. This is a more methodical approach to diagnosis and rectification.
