Default 2004 S Type battery drain please help.

Hi I have a problem with my 54 plate S type I have a 3.4 amp battery drain so far I have pulled all fuses and found out that fuse 20 in the fuse box drivers side is the fuse thats pulling the drain but now I have hit a brick wall my manual book says...
Logic supply to instrument cluster, climate control system, front and rear electronic module, electric parkbrake.
And help and advice would be great and if anyone knows of a good place to take the car to get it sorted in the birmingham area would also be great.
Thanks in advance a frustrated Lee

Lee,

I've moved your questuon from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to advise.

Have a look at the Electrical Guide that's in JTIS (free download) and see what more you can check - some fuses feed other fuses/relays.

If you can read circuit diagrams then download, for free, the diagram for your car at Jaguar electrical reference.

There is quite a lot coming off that one circuit and you should be able to narrow it down.

Have a look to see if the little flap in the ignition barrel is closing when you remove the key.

If you have auto lights and wipers, switch them off. Also switch off the steering column.

Hope this helps, if you need any help with the diagrams, just ask I will be more than happy to help.

Also bear in mind that when the car decides to "go to sleep", which is about 40 minutes after you walk away from it, the battery voltage is monitored by the system.

If, at that time, the battery voltage is "sensed" as below 11.7V the car simply will NOT go to sleep, and continues to drain "about 3amps", until death arrives.

This was the case with "her" Silver S type. It took some finding, as I was looking for all the obvious, as in my older Jags, and it was simply a battery past its use by date.

These are "juice hungry" cars, as are most late model makes, and the battery is more important now after shutdown than its ever been.

One more thing when I pull out fuse 20 in the drivers fuse box the drain stops when I reinsert the fuse it makes a funny noise a bit like a rapid clicking noise not sure if thats normal or not

I left that fuse 20 out for about 4 hours to confirm that was the fault but when I went back to the car it was dead I could not even open the boot off the key fob BUT the battery had not drained at all I popped the fuse back in and the car fired up...
As you can see I dont really know a lot about what does what

Your OP failed to say you had a diesel. They are very significantly different than any other S-Type and not in JTIS. They have all the usual faults well known on here and a lot of others that are on the UK forum (no diesel S-Types in USA etc). For electrical testing you can probably get away with using the non-diesel guide but always keep in mind it does not cover your car so you can have extra or different issues.

Hi Lee

I have the same model on an 05 plate. FYI there is an independent jag specialist in Stourbridge which has an excellent reputation, can't give you the name as I am away out of the country till mid January, but I am sure they would come out on a google search.
Hope this helps

Best regards

Nigel

Do you know what fuse #20 protects and it is listed in the owners manual?

Thanks Nigel I will look them up tomorrow......
Yes Gus I put that in my first post but from what I googled it can still be many things parkbrake or elec module or even a climate control issue looks like a specialist job to me they can source the fault a lot quicker than me.

I have both 2005 & 2006 Gas & Diesel diagrams but do not have Diesel listed for 2004.
