2004 S-type Radio, Park Brake, and Water
Hi there, I'm new to the forum and new to Jags. Just bought a 2004S-type about a month ago. It has 33k miles and seems to have been well taken care of. However I am experiencing problems. Noticed that the driver door speaker was inop and that it was leaking oil on the driveway. It still has factory warranty until April so I took it in to the local Dealer. They changed the oil pan gasket and plugged in the door speaker. Next day all the radio speakers stopped working, called dealer. They say 'disconnect battery for a few minuetes and reconnect. So I did and the speakers started working again. At this step I noticed water in the trunk, about a half inch of it. WTF? Anyway now after reconnecting the battery and getting the speakers to work I am getting a message that says "Apply Parking Brake". The Parking brake now seems to be inop. Taking the car for a drive changes the message to "Parking Brake Fault". I hooked up my code reader and only got a P1111 which is the IAT sensor and nothing to do withthe Brake. I guess it's going back to the dealer but does anyone have any ideas on my problem?
If you havewater in the trunk, tell the dealer. They will replace the trunk seal and fix the park brake fault.
Disconnect the battery again, once you reconnect, put foot on brake and pull up the brake switch(behind shifter). See if you still get park brake fault. Again tell dealer. As for the speakers, hard reset or not, there is a problem. If it has premium sound, possibly amp got wet and is on the fritz. Again tell dealer.
Definitly get it in asap for the water as it can cause corrosion in the wiring if you dont get it sorted.
Dont forget to programme your windows after battery disconnect for anti trap.

Ok, I managed to get the parking brake issue resolved. Originallly the brake would not set in Park, so I tryed setting it in neutral, nada, Drive, nothing, Reverse, and wa-la the parking brake set. I put it back in P and shut it off. Started it back up and now park brake works as it should and no messages. I don't know why or how but that was all it took. For now my only outstanding issue is the water intrusion in the trunk which will hopefully be an easy fix.
