My neighbors have a beautiful 2004 S-Type. Recently it has failed to start on numerous occasions. When it starts acting up the starter just clicks and the horn honks.

They have taken it to the experts for diagnosis, and ended up with a new key and battery, but the car still has the same behavior.

Has anyone experienced anything like this, and if so what was the cause? I hate seeing such a beautiful car just sit there idle. We tried to jump it today with cables and a Lithium Ion jump pack, but still just honks and clicks. Very odd behavior.

 

I'd be thinking the starter motor is drawing way too much current , the experts should be able to test that . Try jumping strait to the starter to eliminate wiring issue,

 

Check the voltage at the battery while someone else attempts to start her up. There may be a short, holding voltage down below 11 volts. Saw this on another vehicle, where the starter motor was the culprit, but the symptoms pointed to a dying battery.
