It used to be double sided automotive tape, one side must have lost its ability to adhere.

Well, there are two very thin strips of soft rubber on both sides of the channel (that is what the problem was, the edge of the rubber seals interfered and got in the way) that I guess you could call double sided automotive tape. I have used it before on other applications, and this is a little different, but it is still in good shape. It is soft, sticky, and pliable.

Default 1968-70 AMC AMX Javelin Door Quarter Trim Molding Clip

Not sure if these clips will work but for 0.75 US cents worth a try.
Let you know how I go.
They look remarkably similar!

They look similar but with the protruding piece on top- you will need to cut that off- or you will never get the side pieces to fit where they should. The side pieces do not look like they are as thin as the Jag version, but that could be the photo. I would suggest just trying to slip one on the trim piece and see what you have before putting them in the body of the car.

The protruding pin in the center is the locking pin that spreads the feet of the clip to lock the clip to the door frame ! You just push the pin in till its flush , It is exactly the same to look at as the s type oem clip , but not a lot or even any cheeper to warrent the experiment . I payed about $120 nzd each jaguar oem ,

Yes you are right about the locking pin. Must be getting older. It may still work if the footing is big enough. Just have to try and find out. You could also use a lite epoxy to help and also the epoxy tape that Rick (joycesjag) talks about.
