Default 2005 S-Type 3.0 Parking Brake Will Not Release?

Hello to my fellow Jaguar enthusiast,

Well to start it off I have a 2005 Jaguar S-Type 3.0, I just took it too get painted two and a half weeks ago at a shop and just got it back today (12/19/2014). When I got it back I noticed that the back headlight was cracked, the cover you have to open to get to your gas lid was pried open and broken, the alarm does not work anymore and too top it off the parking brake keeps locking up and will not release. I reset the emergency brake a few times and it finally released. I did not pay the shop for the paint job because of all the vandalism done to it and the extra 300 miles added to it. So I have to get a new rear right tail light, assembly for the gas, and figure out whats going on with the emergency parking brake and the car alarm? I have about $3,000 to fix it up (the money that would of been for the paint job). Any assistance on where to buy parts from and any knowledge on whats going on with the alarm and with the emergency brake not releasing will greatly be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Adam A.

Thank you! Will try to charge it as soon as the rain stops over here if not I'll buy a new battery, any brands that you recommend for it? I think it is the battery because when had the head lights turned on and lowered my seat, the head lights started to flicker and dim.

Very well documented battery posts (threads) here.

Make sure its a vented one. There is a tube that goes from the side through trunk floor.

I recently changed out my battery. I noticed the car was cranking very slow at startup. I measured 12.26 vdc with my meter, and this battery was drained once before so I wasn't taking any chances, especially with winter approaching. The slow cranking was the only symptom, I was surprised there was no other crazy symptoms happening that are common with low voltage.

I removed the existing Exide battery, marched myself over to the nearest Jaguar dealer, and purchased a new battery.

$240 US,( £ 153.59), money well spent. I don't want to mess around.

Oh, and 22.50 vdc too!

I believe JagV8 was referring to the price you paid for your replacement battery.

I meant "those are typos"! If it's back to being a working car, that'll do nicely

Typo on the voltage, unfortunately not on the price! LOL

Jag dealer is 5 miles from work, so I just ran over there and bought it. This time of year, I wasn't looking to shop around, and figured it was guaranteed to be the right type of battery.

The car is running nicely though, and I have peace of mind concerning battery issues, however the wallet is a bit lighter! Lol

PS maybe it was so expensive because it says made in Germany!

Well guys it is the battery I checked the voltage and its 12.29. I will charge tomorrow in the morning and see if it solves everything. My question is once the battery is charged will the car alarm work again? Or is this a separate problem?

All you can do is try it. Your battery may not charge, just depends, measure it 8+ hrs after charging and no use.

Had the same problem with my Jag 2005 S Type , just disconnected the battery for 10 seconds and it reset itself. Battery was low because of lack of use, so install a solar panel to keep the battery charged and havnt had a problem since.

Seems to work for a lot of problems with the jag and Range rovers.

So I bought a new battery and everything seems to be running smooth now, the only other problem that is coming up now is the horn is not working? I am not too familiar with how a horn works in general so please assist in any way thank you.

The place to check is the electrical guide in JTIS, free download, also on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource, but I think the control is indirect i.e. you press and something activates the horn. So, a failure at any point will mean no horn.

I can't imagine how angry you must have been after trusting someone and finding your trust so violated

Thanks so much for everyone's help in assisting with me with the solution to this problem. At 10 yrs old, a new battery made amazing difference in the way it drives. No
"Lurch". The radio sound more clear, and no warning lights! Advance auto parts, $189 and they installed it for me. Can't beat that for peace of mind.

Found the schematics for it in the Jaguar Handbook. I went to my local mechanic and he gave me the plug for it (I do not the correct term name for it) for free and I just pulled out the old one and put the new one in and it's working fine now. I just have to buy some 5 amp and 15 amp fuse's because a few of them are burnt out and the car should be running smooth. Only other thing to do now is the two front lower control arms and the two rear lower control arms. I plan on starting another thread for the fix.
