Question 2005 S type Battery keeps draining

I recently replaced the battery on my 2005 S Type, after it wouldn't start. I put in a new a battery and it worked great for a good 2 weeks, and now the Battery is dead again. I suspect it's draining from somewhere but don't know where to start to looking. I checked the alternator and it's charging just fine. Has anyone had any similar issues?

Firstly you are NEW, so welcome.

There are "hundreds" of threads on this in the "search" function area. Type in "battery drain" as a starter.

I had this issue with the Silver S. However it is an X200, and yours is an X204, and the electrickery is waaaaay different.

Make sure the battery ground wire has a good connection to ground. Follow the wire off the battery and see where it is fastened and be sure the connection is solid.

I'd recommend you thoroughly search the S-Type forum for battery drain issues. Seems they are all related to a short / pinched wire somewhere, or aftermarket alternator that seems compatible but isn't.

I think TBird, JagV8 and Mikey are all knowledgeable about battery drain issues, but do search the forum first. There is at least one other thread running concurrently with same issue as yours. Search is your best friend on the Jag Forums.

It's a shame that Jaguar didn't provide the Climate control Module with basic protections for all ports related to operating modules at the vehicle.
Most of the electrical problems start in this module

The way to deal with the problem of electricity leakage:

Disconnect the + voltage from the battery

Connect an ammeter between the battery and the + connector

It is important to close doors and take out the key, that the trunk is open, there is a lamp that will add electricity flow.

Start disconnecting relays in the trunk and engine.

See which relay reduces current consumption up to 300 milliamps

If you did not find the connection between the relays and the power consumption, go to disconnect modules:

Climate control Module

In the trunk:

ELECTRONIC PARKING

BRAKE MODULE

REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE

TRAILER TOWING MODULE

ADAPTIVE DAMPING

CONTROL MODULE

PARKING AID

FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE

Successfully ....

I added a 100A relay with a remote on the top of the battery,

I also use one of these on one of my jaguars. It sits for weeks sometimes so this relay is cheap and works amazing.

I didn't even think that anyone made a remote control relay, that's genius! I wonder if you could modify that to wire into an individual circuit to only cut power to the offending module so you don't lose learned values in all the other modules.

Suggest you go to the Stickies at top of this forum . . . .S-Type 'HOW TO' Guides > Miscellaneous > Quiescent Current Drain

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-drain-123535/

Read the PDF attached to Post #1, then read posts 3 and 4. This Sticky may be a decade old, but the S-Types, this issue, and the solutions are still valid and worth repeating.

Best wishes,

A simple visual check to for a known common problem is make sure that dust cover is going back across the ingnition barrel hole when the key is taken out.
If this tiny cover over the hole is stuck in the open position the car will not fully shut down after 40 mins.
This will drain the battery.
It may not be that, but is a simple one to check.

I think it’s possible. These relays are pretty cool imo and really cheap.
