2006 S-Type

What is the deal with that cover under the front end and engine compartment that hides everything you would ever want to access? How difficult is it to remove? What purpose does it serve? Thanks.

#1 helps a little with airflow under the vehicle
#2 if you have a slight leak somewhere it will keep the stuff off your floor

As Kazsam wrote, air flow. Don't remove it and leave it off. It is of some importance.

Thanks for the replies, gents. I think I need to remove it to access the oil drain plug and oil filter. Is it a simple matter of unbolting a few bolts?

I'm surprised they don't have a flap in them for accessing the oil pan and filter. BMWs do. Go figure.

If it were me, I'd leave it on, but it's not totally necessary.
