2006 S Type EBC Brake Problems
Hi all, I recently purchased a very clean 100K 2006 4.2L S Type. The Jag had a Parking Brake failure warning and I priced the Jag with the possibility of replacing the motor and/or the EPB control module. Interestingly the PO had the rear brakes replaced recently by a local garage.
I pulled the rear wheels and both EPB cables were disconnected from the caliper arms. I connected up the cables went through the calibration procedure, no EPB error. The motor pulls the cables and the brakes work. The problem is when I release the EPB, the cables are slack but the EBP arms do not return to the stop. the LH side does work most of the time. The return springs are in place. A tap with BFH and the arms return to the stops and the EPB brake is released.
OK, finally the question(s) for the experts on the Forum .. Is this just a case of corroded EPB stuff in the rear calipers or did the garage that replaced the rear pads make an error in the process ?
For now, can I just pull the EPB fuse to disable the function ?
Based on my Passat, the pistons have to be screwed all the way home during rear pad replacement for the EPB to play nice.
Rebuilt rear calipers are not expensive, $65 from Parts Geek. I have not looked for any specific rebuild kits yet. At $65 I'll replace the calipers.

The core deposit for the rebuilt calipers is only $35, I will strip and rebuild the original calipers ( unless they are corroded to %^$^) and keep them as shelf spares. Hmmm a YouTube video perhaps....
