Default 2006 S-Type Front License Plate?

I just purchased a 2006 S-Type and got my tags in the mail from the dealer... Here in Texas we are required to have a front license plate... but there is NOTHING on the front of my car to hold the plate!?!?!

The carcame from Florida that I think has the same requirement...

There are no holes or anything that I can see that would hold the plate or a plate bracket on the car.

Anyone out there have any insight?

Thanks.

Mine is the same. The dealer offered to put the bracket on for me but I declined as the car looks better without it. After 2 years I got stopped for no front plate. (no ticket though). The dealer did give me the bracket when I bought the car but it's been in the trunk ever since. I was going to taket it to a body shop to have it installed.

i agree with bad mojo the car looks 10 times better with out the plate. over here in ny we are required to have a front plate and no tint on the windsheild but both tickets are non moving violations so dont worry.

At least I know that I am not going crazy. I didn't not buy my car from a Jag dealer, so I'm sure they will want to charge me 600.00 to have one put on. I just spent 800.00 for the 30K servicing.

I made a big mistake in asking them to replace the wiper blades on the car.... 65.00 for the blades and 20.00 to install them! I've had europen cars before, but have never seen such high prices at the dealer before.

That's not even funny, 85.00 for wipers. I bought mine at the auto parts store for about 15.00 ea. and installed them but they will also put them on for free!
The dealer also wanted 890.00 to replace both HID's and I bought a set on Ebay for about 90.00 and replaced them myself in about an hour and a half. (front bumper cover has to come off). They wanted 260.00 PER BULB!!!! Plus labor.

They are about $28 from the dealer. Where in TX are you? Most of the time you won't be stopped, but it is a good reason for them to pull you over and check you.

Hey Craig, here in Florida we arent required to have it. I find it funny Texas requires it since I bought mine in Texas and they only put their dealer tag on the back. I would never drill holes in the front bumper. If you are hell bent on putting it on the front you could probably find the bracket off of ebay or as Ken says $28, or just attach the plate itself. EIther way you go Id use a nice thick double sided tape you can get at home depot. Some of them are padded foam and very strong yet will not take the paint off of your bumper if you want to remove it. Ive used this method when I put euro plates on some of my cars in the past. Unless you are very worried about just getting pulled over ( i.e. frequently out very late at night, carrying things that might be questionable, etc) I wouldnt bother with any of those.

I live in Illinois and we are also required to have plates on the front and back. I have never put a front plate on either of my Jags and have never had a problem with getting pulled over. I do keep my plate in the trunk so If I was to get stopped I could say it fell off or something. I think it looks much better without it. Just my opinion.

Thanks for all the information. I live in the Houston area. I take the car to Momentum Jaguar for servicing. I had a Volvo before this car and alway used Momentum for serviceing. They are expensive but they are normally spot on with problem resolutionand fix things right the first time.

I will keep the plate in the car until I take the car in for oil change in 5K and see if they charge me anything to put it on.

Uh, lets see, I had a stupid thought in my head , Oh yea! Get 4 twisties ( you can rip them off from any supermarket in the produce area) then from each hole tie them to the vertical grill. For extra holding power fold over a piece of duct tape and apply to the back of the plate. Good luck

If you're gonna do that, why not just super glue to the front bumper? It held that construction worker in mid-air!

It's been a while since anyone posted here. However I used four 14 1/2" by 3/16" heavy black Zip ties. I fed one zip tie through a small washer (the eye of the Zip tie acting only as a stopper), through the top hole of the plate, around the mid vent on the front spoiler, back through the bottom hole of the plate and through another small washer. I attached another zip tie to the end of the tie I threaded through, zipped it tight to the plate and then cut both Zip tie ends off with wire cutters. You essentially only use one eye of the Zip ties but it holds snug and has lasted for quite a while up here in Montana. It holds the plate a bit lower than a conventional holder and the plate, I'm sure, screws up the low air flow but I didn't need to drill any holes.
