2007 S-type Climate Nav Touchscreen Issue (nothing when cold)
During the summer, everything worked fine. When it got even somewhat cool (like the 70s and low 80s), my screens would be dark. Sometimes on the drive in to work, they'd come on, I guess after warming up. But since fall has come, I've had nothing.
Tried to search this and am concerned with my finds. Seems this radio/climate control/nav touchscreen maybe can't be replaced? Is that true? Any ideas on how to fix? I've read it could be bad solder joints. I have no idea. And i can't solder/desolder for anything.
Hoping someone can please help as the car, despite only having 35K miles, is somewhat of a problem to drive in cold/icy conditons when I can't even use defrost or heat ... or change the radio station. And the trade-in value is next to nothing.
When I bought the card, I loved it. Such low mileage. And now this.
Headliner is also falling down ... but that's another issue.
Thanks,
Matt

As the nav LCD screens get older you will find that they start to get cold weather issues.
In general LCD screens will start to give issues at about 0 degrees as the liquid starts to solidify.
They should not really go below -4.
If the car is used every day and the cabin is heated for 1/2 hour or more this will probably never happen, but if left for some time it will go below this.
Over many years (i.e. 10 to 15) the more often the screen gets to these low temperatures the more noticeable the effects will become.
As the liquid solidifies it will slow down the screen refresh response time, you may see the screen loose its vertical hold and start rolling and also the shaking of the image. Once it is heated a bit these will stop.
Basically in the long term every S-type LCD nav screen in every car in a climate where the temperature often go below 0 will eventually start to show these problems. Changing the screen for one that works will do the job for a while, but inevitably they will all get these issues in the end.

Been near three years and no idea still here. Battery is fine. Only happens when it's cold. Seeing as it's winter, it's only come on once and that was after two hours of driving.
Seems to be a much reported issue ... but for the life of me, I haven't found a thread with a solution.
As to it being the touchscreen itself, 1) it's fine when it's 85 degrees plus and 2) I read in one thread that OEM replacement didn't even fix.
As it is, I'd like something more modern. Just no idea how to go about. Can't find the Dennis Black threads.
So I continue to driving around with no defrost, no heat, and no visibility on the radio. CAN control the radio with the controls around the touchscreen. Just can't see what station I'm on of course. No control over anything related to AC. Emergency lights work ... so when I begin to freeze to death in car, I can flash those and somebody will see my car on the side of the road and find my dead body. LOL.
Help. It's the only thing wrong with the car ... aside from my fog/headlights issues. And the fact I have no headliner ... because i tore it out as it was pretty much a mess.
THanks,
Matt
PS. I'm not completely useless. I at least changed the fuses for the lighter and power in arm rest that blew when I had an air pump (for tires) burn out.
