3.0 S-Type Enginer Interchangability
Hi,
Just popped over from the MK2 forum, I have been looking at a 2003 3.0 S-Type which needs an engine (big end failure), over in the UK engines are plentiful and cheap but i'm not sure whether any 3.0 S-Type engine will fit or whether its only certain years.
I appreciate that the ancillaries will need to be swapped but is the basic engine the same between years?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Not much help, I'm afraid, but I DO know the air-intake plumbing and air filter, as well as the DCCV and associated plumbing were new/different for MY2003 (maybe 2002.5 in your part of the world.) Additionally, there was something to do with the firing order between introduction and MY2003 freshening. Maybe only renumbered the cylinders. Search "Firing order" here and I imagine you'll find a proper explanation. With no authority nor expertise to back it up, I believe the long-block is identical for the 3.0L Jaguar across all MY S-Types. I would also stick to MY2003 and subsequent when/if I should ever have to swap a new mill into my 2003.
There are some differences that are VIN specific and determined if fitted to an automatic or manual gearbox. It may be best to check with a Jaguar agency to determine if all 3.0 Litre units sold in the Home Market are interchangeable, excepting the ancillaries.
