Default 4.0, No Heat

Everything worked perfectly until - I replaced stuck thermostat, flushed and bled cooling system. All is well except I have no heat??? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. 2000 4.0 S-Type Sport.

Everything was perfect before. I though air lock too but nothing has worked so far. Even took it to independent and they could not get any air out either?

The 4.0's have an auxilluary pump I think, that could be a problem too.

Did you purge the system of trapped air (As Norri pointed out - air lock) to the letter as outlined in JTIS?

Also, ensure you installed the thermostat with the ball safety valve (loss of words) pointed up at the 12 O'Clock position before proceeding. This is pointed out on JTIS as well.

Did you bleed the cooling system from the air bleed hose? Hose is located next to the master cylinder and opens up with a flat blade screwdriver.

Hope my $0.02 points you in the right direction.

We did all we could think of to bleed it. There is no bleed valve on mine (near the master ) so we took off the round plastic cap on the top of the thermostat housing. Due to the shape of the themostat and related housing, the thermostat will only go in one way so that cannot be it either. I am at a loss but it should not be a major item as it occurred with the system flush. When I changed the thermostat, priior to the flush I had the same issue but overcame it by manual compression of the hoses. Any ideas appreciated. The JTIS CD will not run on my computer.

Since I seem to be lacking the bleed screw, perhaps I need to pull the wipers and the plastic cover at the base of the windshield and remove the hose?

The problem must stem from something I did. Is it physically possible to put the thermostat in upside down without leaking?

It has to be there - I'll snap a pic of where mine is since we have the same model year/engine - that might help...

On closer inspection there is a hose coming from the back of the engine to the expansion tank. At the tank there is a strange fitting - white plastic - which may have a plastic screw recessed in it. Is this the critter?

Bleeding operation failed. Could someone tell me the correct procedure? My JTIS is not working.

I had the same problem after I replaced the dccv and it ended up being the sensor plug on the bottom of the resouvar tank. After I snugged it up everything was fine.

Thanks to all, I am getting close but the bleed procedure says to idle until a steady stream from bleed valve, I have not yet got that. Will keep at it. Had heat for several minutes today but not "success" yet. Will repeat the entire proceedure until I get it. Great car, first time it has baffled me.

Tried again today - no luck. I suspect something else as when I open the bleed valve, there is not a steady stream but only a trickle. Any suggestions? Someone mentioned a sensor in the coolant tank - where? Is there a bleed for the auxilliary heat pump? Seems weird that all was fine until I replaced the thermostat (which I checked alignment today).

Is the auxiliary pump running?
